An ISA-certified arborist is a diagnostic resource. When a tree on your property looks off and you don't know what you're dealing with, an assessment gives you a clear picture before you commit to any course of action. A lot of trees that look like they need to come down just need treatment. And some trees that look fine from the street have structural problems that aren't visible until someone looks closely.

Our arborists assess structure, root zone conditions, soil, and visible signs of disease or pest activity. Salt Lake Valley soil is alkaline throughout most of the valley, which creates nutrient availability problems for trees that aren't adapted to those conditions. We look at how a tree is anchored, where the weight is distributed, whether there's included bark at major unions, and what the crown density and dieback pattern tells us about what's happening below the surface.

A health assessment is also useful after a construction project, a severe storm, or any significant change to the area around a tree. Root damage from trenching, soil compaction from equipment, and grade changes near the root zone all affect a tree's long-term stability in ways that may not be obvious for a season or two.

We write up our findings clearly and give you options. If a tree needs treatment, we tell you what the treatment involves and what you can expect. If a tree needs to come down, we tell you why and what the removal would involve. If a tree is fine and just needs a prune, we say that.
